What a General Surgery print job actually runs to

We hold 35 surgery titles in the catalogue and we know their page counts because we have printed them. They run from 312 pages to 8,241, median 816. Here are the three heaviest, with what each would cost as a complete black-and-white bound copy:

TitlePagesB&W, bound
Operative Techniques in Surgery 2nd edition 20238,241₹4,160
Mills & Sternberg's Diagnostic Surgical Pathology (7th edition)7,642₹3,860
Youmans and Winn Neurological Surgery - 8th edition-20226,661₹3,370
Almost nobody prints one of those cover to cover. A typical General Surgery order is 150–400 pages — the chapters you are weak on, a coaching set, or your own compiled notes. At the median of 816 pages a full title would be two spiral volumes, or one hard-bound and about ₹450 in black and white; a 300-page working set is about ₹190.

Colour or black and white

Which General Surgery pages actually need colourcolour

Operative photographs and laparoscopic views carry tissue-plane information in colour. Anatomy line drawings and algorithms are greyscale.

Run it in colour. Colour throughout at ₹1 a page is the honest recommendation for this subject — a black-and-white copy would cost half as much and be worth considerably less than half.

Binding

How we would bind it

Above about 500 pages a single spiral stops lying flat and the coil starts to tear the first pages. We split General Surgery sets of this size into two volumes, or hard-bind them if they are going on a shelf rather than into a bag. Binding is ₹40 per bound volume either way, so splitting a set into two costs ₹40 more, not double.
